Rethinking Research from Disability Perspectives: Towards a New Scientific Paradigm
CIDID is an international conference dedicated to highlighting and recognizing the academic contributions of researchers and educators with disabilities. For a long time, disability has been approached primarily as an object of analysis. By contrast, research conducted from disability perspectives constitutes a legitimate and active source of knowledge production.
Research from a disability perspective is a legitimate and active avenue for knowledge production.
People with disabilities have long been part of the scientific and academic communities and, with growing prominence, continue to contribute actively to the advancement of knowledge across a broad spectrum of disciplines and fields.
This conference seeks to provide a space for dialogue, collaboration, and exchange from disability perspectives, thereby complementing other conferences dedicated to disability studies. CIDID focuses on those who conduct research, teach, and generate knowledge, promoting new ways of understanding and transforming universities and society through diverse disciplines, perspectives, and trajectories.
Research is never a neutral act: it involves existence, experience, context, and perspective. Advances in critical disability studies and situated epistemologies have demonstrated that all research is shaped by the position from which it is conceived and produced. This constitutes one of the invaluable contributions that teaching and research from disability perspectives make to both science and society.
